About the Peer Review Process
During the peer review process reviewers assess the relevance of the research, research methodology, originality/novelty, scientific/practical advancement, clarity of the paper, and layout design. The purpose of peer review is not to identify flaws but to identify strengths and provide constructive comments to help the authors to improve their manuscript. Access to the comments of the reviewer will be open to the author of the paper. Feedback from at least two qualified reviewers will contribute to the Technical Program Committee’s decision on whether to accept or reject the paper.
Why Become a Reviewer?
Reviewing manuscripts is enjoyable, challenging, can provide continuing self-education, helps improve scholarly writing skills, affords a privileged insight into the frontiers of knowledge, and, importantly, develops critical thinking skills that may improve research, teaching, and performing day-to-day engineering tasks. EDM reviewers can take pride in knowing that they have contributed to enhancing technical program and improving publication quality while aiding young engineers and scientists in most effectively presenting their work. Conducting quality reviews is a useful means of extending one's professional reputation. The List of Reviewers is placed on the EDM Committee pages of the Conference Proceedings (contact the Publication Chair if for some reason your name shouldn’t be included in the List of Reviewers).
Responsibilities of a Reviewer
The reviewer’s responsibilities include a general overview of the paper (including a statement on the goal and the major findings of the work) and constructive criticism with positive feedback, encouragement and instructions on the appropriateness, writing, and presentation to improve the quality of the submitted manuscript.
- Provide a prompt, thorough, and impartial review of the paper
- Maintain confidentiality by safeguarding the unique contributions of the author’s work
- Give constructive feedback with reasonable suggestions and a professional tone, using courteous language and respecting the intellectual independence of the authors
- Avoid suggesting the addition of irrelevant or unnecessary references
- Alert the Publication Chair to any suspected ethical issues
- Be responsive to the Conference Organizers
- Finish a review on time
- Decline the opportunity to review the assigned papers if the impartial review is not possible
Peer review is a system based on trust. Each party relies on the others to operate professionally, ethically, and confidentially
Become an EDM Reviewer
Apply to be an EDM reviewer by filling out the registration form (follow this link). In this form you’ll choose topics of interest, leave the contacts and information, required for the List of Reviewers. The Technical Program Chair will consider your application. Then you’ll receive information on how to access the papers and conduct your review. In order to ensure an impartial review of a paper, the EDM conference prioritizes independent reviewers (not a co-author or collaborator, not from the same institution, not a former student/advisor, etc.) who are knowledgeable on the subject matter of the conference.
The reviewer’s anonymity is preserved, personal data are kept strictly confidential. The names of the reviewers are not shared with the authors
